What is a Smencil? Come by the Scent Station on January 24 from 7:30am - 8:00 and 2pm - 2:30 and touch it, see it & smell it before you buy it. This Valentine's Day have your child or your child's teacher writing with a smile by purchasing a Smencil Gram. Grams are on sale now until February 7. Available while supplies last and maximum four smencils per purchase. Smencils are $2. each and includes a $1.00 donation to PTO. Cash payments only will be accepted. Payments can be turned into the main office or given to the teacher or dropped at the PTO room P15B.  Deliveries are February 14th. Show your love by supporting this PTO fundraiser.

Last day to turn in Gifted and Talented Enrichment (GTE) Nomination Forms is Friday Jan. 24 at 4pm. Please turn them into classroom teacher. DKIES currently provides GTE services for identified students in grades 2nd-5th.  If you would like your child to be considered, and he/she has not been tested in the current school year, then please stop by the school office to pick-up a G.T.E. Parent Nomination Form. Applications received past the deadline will not be considered for spring testing.

Jan. 29       Walking School Bus - Everyone can join us and walk to school together.  We gather at 2 locations at 7:15 (Behind Chapel and outside Stoneman Field) We sign in families and do gentle exercises led by our PE teachers. Then we start walking to school together at 7:35, see you there!

Community Calendar

Keiki Great Aloha Run is Sat. Feb. 8 at Ala Moana Beach Park. Program begins at 7am and run starts at 7:30. This Mile and half run/walk along the beach road within the park creates a safe and fun opportunity for kids to run and experience the joy of a healthier Hawaii.  To raise funds for our school, $15 of every registration will be donated to support our PE program. Jan. 24, 25, 26                       Big Home Building and Remodeling Show at Neal S. Blaisdell Exhibition Hall. General Admission is $8.00 and kids 12 and under are free.  Connecting local families with industry professionals who can bring your home to life. Sat. Jan. 25                 Celebrating Living History at Battleship Missouri Memorial from 8am - 3pm for free. The celebration commemorates the USS Missouri's initial launch in 1944. Expect exhibits, special tours and educational games and activities that will take you back in time. Visit the Battleship Missouri Memorial for free when Living History Day offers a glimpse of major historic events. Kids and their families can watch a re-enactment of Gen. Douglas MacArthur, play educational games, take a tour of the Captain’s Cabin and Radio Room aboard the Mighty Mo, and listen to live music while vintage planes fly overhead. Sat. Jan. 25                 Lions Club has their annual eyeglasses and hearing aid drive. Accepting donations at Mililani and Pearl City Walmart from 8am - 2pm  and Longs Drugs in Wahiawa from 10am - 3pm.  Eyeglasses donations will be cleaned and distributed to those who reside in developing countries and need it by Lions and Leo Club members and other groups.  Hearing aids will be cleaned and tested before they are handed out locally. Sat. Jan. 25                 Wahiawa Public library hosts a storytime at 10am, followed by a harmonica performance by Danilo Marrone at noon. Call 622-6345

Sun. Jan. 26                  Wet 'n' Wild  has free Kids Admission Sunday 10:30 - 4pm - as long as they are shorter than 42 inches.  Kids can play in the Keiki Kove, where the water is knee-deep and the mini-slides are gently angled. Older children can surf in the Da Flowrider and race down Waimea Whirl and O’Hana Highway. Don’t forget to bring towels, sunscreen, extra cash and gear you’d typically pack for a beach day. Wed. Jan. 29              Telefocus Webinar series - Time to connect 7am - 8am. Explore ways that FOCUS supports military families during moves and school transitions.   Identify strategies for increasing family closeness during times of transition.
