Heroes are never alone, they band together!  Our school has decided to take on blood cancer and our mission is to help find a cure. Be on the lookout for more information in the upcoming days as we will kick-off our Hero Squad program. Forms will come home with your child next week.
This is our yearly community service fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society- LLS. (formerly known as Pennies for Patients) Thank you in advance for helping the Hero Squad. Don’t forget about all the free SEL and STEM resources available to you!
Leukemia is the #1 most diagnosed form of childhood cancer and this week in the MakerSpace students will be making cards for them to feel better. Learn more about this worthy cause during What's Up Wednesday's Webex with videos and representatives from LLS

Makerspace Monday:  We are collaging cards this week & sending them to Leukemia patients in California.   Miss Bei has created & gifted us some intricate birds, hearts and embossed paper designs.  We'll add poems, haiku and riddles to help the recipients have a "happy day."  Everyone likes to get cards in the mail!  Who could you send a card to?  We have some ideas on the Makerspace Monday Blog.  Take a peek.  Post your creations on our Flipgrid so we can see how they turned out.  (students log in with their inouye google account.) https://dkies.weebly.com/makerspace-mondays

Second Step social-emotional program is being taught in all elementary schools in the Leilehua Complex. Social-emotional learning has proven to have positive benefits to schools and to students. Studies have shown that a more positive school climate and increased academic achievement can be attributed to SEL lessons. (SEL = Social Emotional Learning)
Lessons that teach empathy, emotion regulation, communication, problem-solving, impulse control, emotion management, and assertiveness.
We believe that when students have these tools and practice them in class and at home, they are better able to share and work out their problems in a positive manner. If you would like to know more about Second Step, check out their website at www.secondstep.org

Here is a link for Pathway 2 success which provides SEL activities to do at home.

Butterfly Garden

Saturday, April 3 from 1pm - 4pm - Monarch butterflies are flying into Ward Village this weekend. See if you can spot caterpillars or some of the delicate flying creatures in the Sharing the Butterfly Experience encounter tent. Five people at a time can walk in for photos and don’t be afraid if a few of the Monarchs decide to land on your little one. Then learn how people are working to keep the butterfly population thriving and buy a chrysalis to watch at home from Paradise Monarchs. While you’re walking around, watch for positive messages scattered in the garden by Oˊahu Kindness Rocks. Get there a little early to pick up some local produce at the Kakaˊako Farmers Market, which closes at noon. Free
