April Happenings

April marks the nation’s ‘Month of the Military Child’
This is a time to recognize military children and youth
for their heroism, character, courage, sacrifices and continued resilience.

Purple is the color that symbolizes all branches of the military –
a combination of Army Green, Marine Red, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard Blue.

We ask you to participate in 3 themed Wednesdays this month.
April 14 we will dress in Red, White and Blue
April 21 we will Purple Up for military kids
April 28 we will dress in Camouflage.

You should have received an email from the principal earlier this week with the following information:

A friendly reminder about ways in which students are released from campus:

1.  Covered playcourt field near the 4-way stop - children are escorted to the open field and released to walk home or meet parents

2.  O building field near McNair gate - children are escorted to the field and released to walk home or meet parents

3.  A+ after school care - Mililani YMCA provides after school care in our cafeteria and students report to their leaders

4.  PreK and Kinder parents receive 1 pass and enter through the front of campus to pick up their child from their classroom if they wish

5.  School bus - If your child qualifies for free (CORRECTION - only FREE and not reduced) and you live farther than 1 mile from campus, your child is eligible for free bus transportation.  Please call our office assistant, Mrs. Lopez, for more information.

6.  Car pick up - We will be closing the gates to our front parking lot prior to school ending so we ensure our busses can enter.  Please do not park or wait on the main road as this causes a local traffic safety concern.  If you want a place to wait, please park across the street or in our gravel lot.  You can also head to campus a little later as our drive through car pick up lane closes at 1:45 on Wednesdays and 2:45 on all other days.

Mauka to Makai Expo

Download and print coloring books and activities, fact cards and environmentally aware stories through the website of this year's expo. The event is typically held at the Waikīkī Aquarium and that is where you can go to pick up a free swag bag of items to pick up either Friday, April 9 or Thursday, April 22. (You do need to register for it as the bags are available while supplies last.) I’m sure my kids will love the finger puppets of Native Hawaiian birds and ʻōhia crowns from the Department of Land and Natural Resources, the online games from Project Wet (I built a poster for my kids to color of a dog in a park slipping on a banana peel) and the Mālama Honua Voyage app where kids can build their own Polynesian voyaging canoe.  Free Activities are online now at maukatomakaiexpo.com. Register by Thursday, April 8 for swag bag pickup on Friday, April 9 through eventbrite.com.
