Instruction is expected to resume April 7 for students
HONOLULU — The Hawaii State Department of Education (HIDOE) announced today it will keep all public schools closed for a total of three weeks to help slow the spread of COVID-19. In addition, HIDOE offices except for essential functions will be closed for the next 15 days. School and state offices will continue to provide public services remotely.
Everything changes very quickly these days.

Here's one thing families don't need to worry about during these challenging times. Student meal service
During the extended closure, HIDOE will continue to provide student meals, including providing grab-and-go breakfast and lunch at select schools to children 18 years and under at the following days and times:
Leilehua High School is the closest location.
Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. for breakfast.
Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. for lunch.
Note: Meals will not be served on Thursday, March 26 in observance of Prince Kuhio Day.
EFMP shared a few resources available to families, particularly related to family nutrition:
- Instacart: This is a for-fee grocery shopping and delivery service available through a downloaded app on your phone or browser on your home computer. You will need to arrange for delivery person with post access or to meet your delivery person outside the installation gate.
- Food for Families/Ohana Military Food Drop: Food for Families provides emergency food/groceries for those in need at no cost through monthly Ohana Food Drops and on site food pantries. Each ASYMCA food pantry provides staple items. ASYMCA is also able to provide temporary financial assistance to military families experiencing emergencies. Ohana Food Drops occur on the fourth Monday of every month at our branch on Wheeler Army Airfield and the last Wednesday of every month at our branch on Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam. The next Wheeler food drop will be Monday, 23 March 2020 from 1230-1430. Bring your own box or bag for your groceries.
3. Military Family Life Counselors: Military Family Life Counselors (MFLCs) are Masters or Doctorate-level licensed counselors that work with families, individuals, and children for in person, non-medical counseling services. They are currently available by walk-in at ACS (and very limited other on post locations) or you may call 808-222-7088. Online counseling is also available via Military One Source (Caution-https://www.militaryonesource.mil/confidential-help/non-medical-counseling/military-onesource/ < Caution-https://www.militaryonesource.mil/confidential-help/non-medical-counseling/military-onesource/ > )
4. EFMP ROC : A program with enhanced support for military families with special needs. Consultants are available by phone or video to help you navigate the medical and educational needs of your family, and connect you with military and community-based support.
