Comic Book Contest Entries Due Tuesday, February 25!
Zap! Pow! Wowee!  Is your child entering our Comic Book Contest?  If so, they need to turn in their comic to the library by Tuesday, February 25.   Students are invited to create a 2 page comic that has the following elements: Characters, setting, beginning, middle & end.  For more detailed information, visit the library website dkies.weebly.com

There's only a few more days of the February Reading Challenge & it looks like our library assistant, Mrs. Gallegos, will hold her title as reading champion.  She has logged over 4670 reading minutes!  Students are invited to log their reading minutes in Beanstack.  They log in with their clever badge or 10 digit student ID on the Beanstack app or by clicking Inouye Elementary at https://www.beanstack.com/hidoe.  Who will topple Mrs. G?  The challenge is on!

Meet a Local Comic Book Author, Thursday, February 27, 2:20-3:30
In celebration of Digital Learning Day, Mrs. Colte has invited local comic book author Audra
Furuichi to visit our school! Ms. Furuichi writes the online comics Nemu Nemu and Henshin
Rider. You can learn more about her here: https://audrafuruichi.com/ Students in grades K-5
with their parents will be invited to listen, draw along with Ms. Furuichi and tell stories through
comics at this after school family event.  Her books and stuffed animals will be available for purchase.

Community Calendar

2020 Keiki Rainbow Run on March 28. Register by Feb. 29 at Keikirainbowrun.org.  $15 for kieiki runners (ages 3 - 14) and $10 for teachers & parents.  Your keiki registration fee goes back to our school to support the PE program!  Warm-up starts at 8 and run starts at 8:30 at University of Hawai'i at Manoa.  Keiki registration includes a T shirt; adults may purchase T shirts separately.  A $10 late fee will be added to all registrations after Feb. 29.  Strollers are not allowed on the course. B.O.S.S Community Flea Market and Garage Sale 2020 at the Nehelani Front Lot from 8am - noon on March 28 (stalls open Feb. 17). This uh-ma-zing convention is back in Honolulu for a weekend of cosplay, celebrity meet-and-greets, comic book swaps, and workshops with artists. The most family-friendly programs happen on Sunday. Starting at 10 a.m., artists draw free caricatures of your children; then at 4 p.m., the kids’ costume parade begins. Three-day schedule of events—including an appearance by Jason David Frank of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and autographs with Zach Morris (Mark Paul Gosselaar) from the TV series Saved By the Bell $25 Friday and Sunday; $35 Saturday; $60 for all three days. Feb. 22       Super Saturday at Hawai'i State Art Museum from 10am - 2pm.  A quiet corner of downtown Honolulu comes alive this weekend for this free monthly program for kids. This month, they can learn to breakdance, weave, draw with chalk, make prints and create wax molds of their own hands. Also, don’t forget to visit the I Love Art playroom, take free pictures at the photo booth, and tour the outdoor gallery where the giant Mr. Chickenpants (a hybrid chicken-fox) is on display. Shangri La's live performances run from noon to 2 p.m. on the front lawn, and the cafe (Artizen by MW Restaurant) serves a kid-friendly menu from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.   Hawaiʻi State Art Museum. 250 S. Honolulu Theatre for Youth introduces a new interactive play, featuring traditional fables from Japan and Okinawa. Its mission is to teach keiki about persistence, respect and kindness through music and language. Tues. Feb. 25       Mardi Gras for Children at Hawai'i Children's Discovery center from 9am - 11am.  Colorful beads. Lively music. Masks. Happy keiki. There will be enough beads and masks for everyone—so toddler riots don’t break out. After the party, visit  the multicultural, “Our Rainbow World” gallery where keiki can sing karaoke and practice their lion dance moves. The mini café in the center's lobby is a great place to wind down with Spam musubis, veggie sticks, juice boxes, and other family favorites. And don't forget to see the colorful murals outside the center, courtesy of 2020 POW!WOW! Spring Break Options

March 16 - 20                       Skating into Spring Break at Schofield Barracks School Age Center from 5:30am - 6pm.  Mon. is movie day and Tie Dye madness. Tues. is field trip for kinder to KIHA. Wed. 1st & 2nd grade field trip to KIHA and STEM fun for all.  Thurs. is 2nd & 3rd grade field trip to KIHA and STEM fun for all. Fri. 4th & 5th grade field trip to KIHA and everyone wear Neon.  Fees are based on total family income.
