11/7 - 11/11


5th grade is participating in the 11th Annual Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive. Accepting donations of brand new pajamas in all sizes from newborn to adult. Pajamas must be a complete set. For every pair of pajamas donated, Scholastic Book Clubs will donate a brand new book to Pajama Program to give to kids who are affected by instability.  Donate pajamas to any 5th grade class or bring to the main office before Dec. 5.

Calling all Artists! Have you entered the Yearbook cover contest yet?  All entries due Nov. 8. Your entry should be on 8 1/2 x 11 white paper with vertical orientation. Theme is superhero (There's a superhero in all of us)  These words must appear on the cover "Daniel K. Inouye Elementary school"  "2019 - 2020"  ON THE BACK should be student name, room number, parent name and phone or email.  All entries can be seen and voted on at Big Draw family event Nov. 14

Fri. Nov. 8          Patriotic Day - Dress in in Red White and Blue!

Turkey Trot - donate canned food and walk or run or skip to the music for 30 minutes. Each grade level comes to the O building field in front of the school. Parents are welcome to join their child running, skipping or walking to the music, please sign in at the office first and make sure you bring picture id. 
Following is the list of times each grade level will be on the field.
Pre - K & K 8:45 - 9:15  1st Grade 9:15 - 9:45      2nd Grade 9:45 - 10:15
3rd Grade  10:15 - 10:45  5th Grade 10:45 - 11:15    4th Grade  11:15 - 11:45

Sign up today for PTO Fun Run on Nov. 23. Just $12 for original DKIES Fun Run T shirt and a family friendly run or walk.  There are 2 options for distance: either 5K (approx. 2.5 miles) or 1 mile for little legs. Wed. Nov. 13              Copy Training 8am - 9am - Meet in PCNC office then we go to D4 - No kids

Thurs. Nov. 14      Big Draw 2:20 - 3:30 family event to paint, draw and explore creative techniques. Vote for the yearbook cover contest and buy sweets at PTO bake sale.

Thurs. Nov. 7                     Ukulele Project Hawai'i invites fans of the instrument to make music from 5:30 - 7pm at Pearlridge Center, Mauka, Center Court.  Visit pearlridgeonline.com

Sat. Nov. 9            Waimea Valley Makahiki Festival & Heiwa Tuʻaro I Vaihi from 9am - 3:30pm. Bring your family to Waimea Valley to watch Hawaiian arm wrestling, rock lifting, barefoot racing and other traditional Polynesian games. Arrive by 9 a.m. for the opening ceremony, or by 10 a.m. to see coconut tree-climbing races. The rock lifting competition begins at noon, and wrestling kicks off at 1:45 p.m. Food vendors are on the premises, so you might want to bring cash for snacks and drinks. Waimea Valley also has a swimmable waterfall that is safe for kids (with adult supervision, of course.)   $5 with military and kamaʻāina I.D. Sat. Nov. 9  Super Saturday from 10am - 2pm. A quiet corner of downtown Honolulu comes alive this weekend when the Hawaiʻi State Art Museum hosts “Super Saturday,” a free program where kids can take mini workshops from professional artists. Some highlights include breakdancing, keychain and scrunchie making, 3D wiring, watercolor painting and a musical program called “boomwhackers.” Also, watch a screening of the animated series project Wao Akua, and don’t forget to visit the Honolulu Police Department’s booth to make free ID cards for your children. The event runs through lunchtime, so you might want to bring some cash to purchase food at the museum’s café, Artizen by MW, and cotton candy by Love Puff Hawaiʻi.     Hawaiʻi State Art Museum. 250 S. Sun. Nov. 10        Diamond Head Arts & Craft Fair at Kapiolani Community College in Honolulu. 9am - 2pm everyone is invited shop from many local vendors. 4303 Diamond Head Road

Nov. 11       73rd annual Wahiawa Lions Veterans Day Parade from 10 - 11:30 for free.  More than 80 marching units will participate.  Representing DKIE will be our JPO, Greeters Club and Eagle Council students, parents are welcome to walk with the group or cheer from the sidelines. Route starts at Ka'ala Elementary and goes up California Ave. to end at Wahiawa Town Center.  Expect traffic, limited parking and road closures. 808-522-5149. 

Nov. 11        Attend a special ceremony onboard the Battleship Missouri Memorial in Pearl Harbor from 4:30 - 5:30 The observances worldwide will culminate with a special sunset ceremony, honoring service members who gave the ultimate sacrifice by serving on the decks of the USS Missouri.

George Howell, Commanding Officer of the USS Missouri, will be the ceremony’s keynote speaker. Capt. Jack Laufer, USCGR (Ret.), a board member for the USS Missouri Memorial Association, will present the ceremony’s opening address.
Attendance to the ceremony is free and open to the public. Complimentary round-trip shuttle service for the ceremony will be offered from the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center beginning at 3:30 p.m.
