celebrates Chinese New Year from 5pm - 8pm with a free, family-friendly event,
featuring the Asian Lion Dance Team, entertainment from Wahiawa Hula Studio
II and appearances by Miss Chinatown Hawaii Court members. Watch a traditional Chinese lion dance and
martial arts demonstration at Center Court to welcome the Year of the Rat.
Children are welcome to participate by feeding the lion li see (lucky money),
which is believed to bring prosperity to the giver throughout the year. There
will also be giveaways and keiki craft activities. Enter for a chance to win prizes with a turn
at the Town Center of Mililani spin wheel. While at Town Center of Mililani,

Volunteer Day at Waimea Valley. Kids of all ages can join a volunteer day just
for young families from 9am - 11:30am. Waimea Valley offers keiki an
opportunity to clear invasive plants from the botanical gardens and do other
groundwork. In many areas, trees shade you from the sun but volunteers should
still bring sunscreen, hats, long sleeve shirts and pants, and covered shoes.
All volunteers are welcome to enjoy the park after the work is done, so pack a
swimsuit in case the lifeguard-watched pool at the bottom of the waterfall is

Fishing from 10am - 2pm. Participate in
a catch and release program for all ages at Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden. Enjoy a scenic 20-minute walk to the fishing area (unpaved
pathway) to catch and release fish. Recommended are walking shoes,
insect repellent, rain gear, fishing supplies, barbless hooks, bread for bait,
drinking water and lunch or snack. A limited number of bamboo poles are
available to borrow from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (first-come, first-served).
This program happens every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1

12 New Years Ohana Festival at
Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i, JCCH Campus and Moili'ili Field in
Honolulu for free from 10am - 1pm.
Expect food, cultural demonstrations like kimono dressing, bonsai, bunka
shishu (embroidery), and calligraphy. Entertainment including: taiko
