Have a Great Summer Vacation!!

Parents who have children with medication in the health room must pick it up on or before the last day of school. New paperwork will need to be filled out for it next year.

Honolulu Family website has lots of great family events posted by Thursday for the upcoming weekend.  I find many events there to include in highlights.

Thurs. Aug. 1 .    Class Postings on the cafeteria at 4pm. You can drive by at any time after that to see the classes your child will be in for 1st through 5th grade.  (Kindergarten classes will not be posted until after their testing the first week of school)

Fri. Aug. 2 .    Meet & Greet Teachers and drop off school supplies from 2:15 - 3:15

Mon. Aug. 5 .    First day of school for 1st - 5th grades and Pre school

Community Events

Fri. May 31 Sunset Mele and Night Market from 4pm - 9pm at the Hawai'i Convention Center.  Friday is the last day for the state's public schools, and it is the first night of this year's free family movie event at the Hawaiʻi Convention Center. Listen to live music by Conner Snow, Robi Kahakalau and other local entertainers. Shop in the marketplace of 35 vendors and pick up everything from Jamba Juice to Filipino food and gelato. Then head into the theater for a showing of Aquaman. Booths and entertainment begin at 4 p.m. The movie starts at 6 p.m.  Event is Free. Sat. June 1  Wahiawa Library kickoff event for summer reading program with Mr. Kneel at 10am. He is a rapper who teaches literacy through kid-friendly rap songs on the theme outer space. His energetic performances will have kids dancing, singing and having tons of fun. 820 California Ave. (808) 622-6345

·       Sat. June 1  Flight Adventures at Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum from 8:30am - 4;30pm. Free for kids 18 years and younger with registration. Without registration, kids 3 years and younger get in free; $5 general admission.The cockpits are open and remote-control aircraft are ready to take off at this event at the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum. This year, admission is only $5 and kids 18 years and younger get in free when you register ahead of Saturday's event. Usually, admission only is free during the museum's LIVE day in the fall. When you arrive, make sure to sign up for the opportunity to fly remote-control planes (registration opens at 8 a.m., with flying only between 8:30 a.m. and noon) and stick around for the candy drop at the end of the airshows, scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Remember, if you do not have base access, you will park at the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center and take the shuttle to the museum. Sun. June 2           Keiki Fun Sunday-The Fabulous Fish from 9am - 4pm.  Kids get in for free this Sunday at Sea Life Park Hawaiʻi, where there will be gyotaku fish printing on tote bags, educational games to teach keiki about fish, a “baby shark” dance performance, a bubble wand show, puppet shows, live mermaids and scavenger hunts. Sun. June 2 .    Family Hike on Hau'ula Papali Trail from 1pm - 4pm.  This hike led by the Sierra Club Oahu is free for those 14 and under, $1. for members and $5. for non members.  A 3.2 mile hike that takes you to a ridge overlook.  Registration required at sierracluboahu.org/outings

Summer Fun Programs & the 50th State Fair

Cool off w/Summer Reading at the Public & Sgt. Yano Libraries!
The Hawaii State Public Library System & Sgt. Yano Library run great summer reading programs for kids (& adults too). Programs offer incentives for reading & special events to entertain all ages. Sign up for summer reading programs at Wahiawa or Mililani Public Libraries or at Sgt. Yano. Parents can participate & win prizes too, so think of topics you want to explore, a favorite author to rediscover & model reading for fun & information for your kids.  Public library Summer Reading Program begins June 1 and ends July 13. YMCA offers Many summer programs for kids of all ages. Day camps, swim lessons, overnight camps, sports, music and arts and more. Color brochure with specific programs is available in school office. ymcahonolulu.org  

50th State Fair opens this weekend and is open the next 6 weekends. Watch racing pigs, a magic show, eat carnival food, live entertainment, demolition derby,  ride the rides and so much more at this annual carnival. Aloha Stadium . 99-500 Salt Lake Blvd., Honolulu, Hawaii 96818

E.K. Fernandez's biggest carnival of the year is open for six weekend at Aloha Stadium. The 50th State Fair features more than 22 rides, eight shows, and all the games you can play and carnival food you can eat. In 2019, there are two new rides: Balloon Race will take keiki around in spinning tubs that go up and down and the Lolli Swings lets two people sit next to each other in swings that go up and down. New shows include Scott's World of Magic (May 24-June 9) which will include levitation tricks and a family-friendly hypnotist (May 24-June 2). Watch around the fair also for transforming cars who will stop for photo ops.  Kids under 40 inches are always free. General admission varies from 10 to 50 credits, depending on the day. 
Here are the special discount days:
·      Every Sunday, June 9-30: Noon-6 p.m. most rides will be 30 credits.
·       Sunday, June 2: Noon-6 p.m. most rides will be 20 credits.
·       Thursday, June 6: 6 p.m.-closing most rides will be 30 credits.
·       Fridays, June 7 and 21: Be one of the first 500 people to park at Aloha Stadium and you will receive 80 Fun Pass credits by showing a ticket at the Customer Service Booth.
