MAHALO from 5th Grade A4 students for considering sending your comments to support our project to stop endangered ‘Opea’pea’ (Hawaiian hoary bats) from being killed by wind turbines by having people email support for any or all of these
Solutions:
1 Stop the turbines at night when the bats fly.
2 Stop the turbines completely until a way to stop killing bats is put in place.
3 Companies that own the wind turbines pay for bat habitat and research.

More than 60 opea'pea' have been killed by wind turbines on the North Shore of Oahu over the last few years. Way more bats have been killed than expected. The wind turbines companies did not have permission to kill this many bats.  Now they are asking the federal government for permission to kill more! We say “NO!”.
Research is needed on the population of bats on each island. If we do not know how many bats there are, how do we know what impact killing more will have?
The Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) is taking comments from the public until December 24th 2018, at Glenn.M.Metzler@hawaii.gov  regarding their decision to allow more bats to be killed or not by turbines. Please email Glenn. He is waiting to hear from you!

The 25th ID has posted a PSA on their Social Media pages regarding the Division Run which is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 17 from 6:30a-7:45a on Schofield. Students may be tardy to school on this day.  BUT DO NOT NEED TARDY SLIP, JUST GO TO CLASS., due to roving road closures because of the run. Please note that the roads will not be closed entirely  from 6:30a-7:45a - portions of the route will be closed at different times to accommodate the runners. According to Public Affairs, the Soldiers should be on Waianae Ave between 6:45a-6:55a and then again from 7:20a-7:25a, which is where the majority of the affected bus stops are located.

Please note that the Kalakaua CC bus pick up may be affected even though it is not located in the route. Because of the road closure on Kolekole, buses may be late getting to Kalakaua CC.

The route will follow from Cadet Sheridan past the Post Exchange and Main Post Chapel to Williston Ave to Grimes Street, passing near the Soldier Support Center. From there it will proceed from Ayres Ave to Waianae Ave, passing 3rd BCT, and the Tropic Lightning Museum, to 2nd BCT at Watts Fields and Devol Street. From there the route will follow Foote Ave past the Post Office to Mathews Ave and wind around to Humphreys Road. Finally, the route will follow Kolekole Ave, returning to Cadet Sheridan Road and Weyand Field.

Enjoy your holiday break and return to school on January 9, 2019

Get a healthy start to the new year by joining our Walking School Bus on the first day back to school, January 9, 2019.  A walking school bus is an organized walk to school with identified walking routes, supported with adult chaperones and helps reduce traffic in school areas.  These walking activities promote healthy habits and exercising daily to keep our kids heart healthy. It is a safe walk and connects kids to their neighborhoods.  We will again leave from 2 locations: Stoneman field and behind the chapel.  Gather and sign in at 7:15 and start walking at 7:30.  We will have some PT exercises while we gather everyone to go.  Please eat breakfast at home before joining us.  We should get to school by 7:45 and after a quick picture, go to class on time.  Look for the flier on Dec. 19 and see the maps on the back for where you can join.  If parents cannot walk with their child, then  sign permission form from office or volunteer in orange vest that day & your child walks with us.
