Dec. 20 - 31 . Pearlridge Uptown Center Court welcomes children under 48 inches tall to ride the Pearlridge Express locomotive from 10 am - 9pm Mondays - Saturdays and 10 - 6 on Sundays. Cost is $3.50 per child. A 10 ticket booklet may be purchased for $29. pearlridgeonline.com
Mon. Jan. 1 . First Day Hike up the Makapu'u Lighthouse path at Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline. 7th annual national event encourages everyone to celebrate the New Year with a guided outdoor exploration. Sunrise will be greeted and heralded in with a blowing of a conch shell in the 4 cardinal directions, followed by an oli and then taiko drummers. More than 700 people are expected to make the short 2 mile round trip trek to the summit of the Makapu'u Lighthouse Trail. Gate and parking lot will open at 5:30am and sunrise is expected at 7:09am. This trail features a paved pathway that is great for beginners, handicap accessible and stroller friendly. Pets are allowed, however they must stay leashed at all times. There are no restrooms.
